"For those who care about animals, whether pets or wildlife, why not leave a portion [of your estate] to an organization that has the animal's best interest at heart and has served you and your area for so many years and future years to come?"

That's the message Claudia and Doug Forbes have for those contemplating naming Pasadena Humane as a beneficiary of their estate plan. And it's one that the couple-long—time donors to the shelter—firmly stand behind.

"We have been supporters of Pasadena Humane for many years with annual giving," the couple said. "When it came time to make our estate plan, it only made sense to include them."

The couple expanded on that sentiment noting that they are committed to supporting their local shelter (they live in La Crescent-Montrose, one of our 11 service areas) and are appreciative of the broad range of programs and services we offer to the community.

"What's best for the animals is what comes first. The staff is great, and the volunteers help expand the reach of all the services available at the facility as well as out in the community," they said, adding that they hope their future gift will help make possible continued advancements and growth in the arena of animal care and welfare.

Long before she and her husband became donors, Claudia adopted a dog from the shelter which she fondly recalls as "the best dog ever." More recently, though, they have enjoyed the company of cats—one of whom became a member of the family because of the assistance that Pasadena Humane routinely provides the community.

"Squeak" was discovered in a grocery bag on a sidewalk in Silver Lake. The couple didn't think twice about taking the tiny kitten immediately to Pasadena Humane. As Squeak was found outside our service area, we were unable to accept it. But because it was clear the couple were already smitten with the kitten, we did provide them with thorough instructions on caring for it. And the rest, as they say, is history.

"She is the most adorable and beautiful Russian blue baby who will turn seven this month!"
